I have a fondness for <A HREF="http://www.librarything.com/work/8839&book=5132355" REL="nofollow">The Oxford Dictionary of Word Histories</A>, <A HREF="http://www.librarything.com/work/8158&book=5054481" REL="nofollow">The F Word</A>, <A HREF="http://www.librarything.com/work/2394" REL="nofollow">Bryson’s Dictionary of Troublesome Words</A>, and, of course, I couldn’t do without <A HREF="http://www.librarything.com/work/3407" REL="nofollow">The Element’s of Style</A> (pocket edition).<BR/><BR/>As a librarian, I have to agree that the OED is absolutely fantastic, though I don't think I'd want to have it with me on a desert island.
